What is the difference between THCA and THC?

THCA and THC are closely related compounds found in cannabis, but they differ in how they affect the body. THCA is the raw, non-psychoactive form that exists in fresh cannabis plants. THC, on the other hand, is the psychoactive compound that produces noticeable effects.

The transformation from THCA to THC happens when heat is applied. This process, known as decarboxylation, removes a carboxyl group from THCA, activating it into THC. This is why raw THCA products do not produce the same effects unless they are heated.
