Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums. The gums become red, irritated, swollen where they are usually firm and pale pink. They can bleed easily, especially when brushing teeth. Gingivitis is very common. Sometimes asymptomatic, it can change, if it is not dealt with in a timely manner, & it can become severe and difficult to treat other diseases such as periodontitis. If left untreated, the infection can overcome the gums, bones & surrounding tissues of the teeth. Treating gingivitis should be performed by North Suburban Dental of Mundelein.
