Ford Motor Company discontinued the Ranger pickup truck after 2012. The manufacturer wanted to concentrate on producing the very popular F-Series models. Yet, for various reasons, many consumers prefer mid-sized pickups over larger versions. Once the company saw other manufacturers selling large numbers of those vehicles, the Ranger was reintroduced in 2019.

1) Towing Capacity - The Ranger is useful for towing boats and campers, as well as for hauling equipment and materials in the bed. The 2022 standard model has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. It can tow most RVs except for the heaviest versions. For most RVers, though, the Ranger is ideal.

2) Convenience - Another consideration is that mid-sized pickups are easier to drive around town than full-sized versions. That's a particular concern for people who live or work in a relatively urban setting. Full-size models don't fit in all older, smaller residential garages.

3) Fuel Economy - Fuel economy also is better on average with mid-sized trucks. The Ranger's specifications show miles per gallon at up to 20 in the city and 26 on the highway.
