Elevation of the intraocular pressure, retinal damage and cataract formation are possible. The risks are minimized by using a magnifying lens to precisely focus the laser on the floating opacity and fixating the patients head with a head strap. By aiming the laser precisely in the vitreous cavity and carefully monitoring the total amount of energy used in the procedure there is little likelihood of these complications occurring.
